Sony Playstation 3 Repairs

sony-ps3Sony’s successor to the Playstation 2 was released in Australia in 2007 after much anticipation by gamers. Models released include the 60 GB, 40 GB and 80 GB, defined by their hard disc drive (HDD) size.

Those who loyally awaited the arrival, almost two years after the release of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 were rewarded with a sleek and shiny console design packed with features. The main attraction was the introduction of Blu-ray technology, a major development gamble by Sony in the high definition optical disc HD DVD vs. Blu-ray war to be the next entertainment medium. Sony took the honours, with HD DVD now obsolete.

The Playstation 3 is not only a powerful gaming console providing exceptional high definition graphics, it has the ability to be a complete home media unit- PlayTV (stop pause rewind live TV), Blu-ray disc player, photo management, video editor and uploader, download and store music and videos, stream movies from a computer. Another bonus is that online play via the Playstation Network does not require a fee or monthly subscription. The 60gb release model is the only that offers backwards compatibility, though with high definition TVs available and the impressive graphics capabilities it’s a guess why anyone would want to wear out the console by playing Playstation 2 games.

One of Sony’s biggest accomplishment with the Playstation 3 is the delay of a modification by third parties (three and a half years), thereby keeping a hold on game sales.

The Playstation 3 is plagued by a manufacturing fault called the Yellow Light of Death (YLOD) which results in a hardware failure, just like the Xbox 360 is plagued by the RROD problem. Extreme overheating and high running noise is also a drawback for the console. The Blu-ray lens used is also quite fragile and gamers find their Blu-ray lens are dying out after 12-24 months.

Our repair process for the Playstation 3 includes extensive testing and in the case of major repairs such as the motherboard repair, also includes an internal system clean. We have skilled technicians with a background in electronics manufacturing who carry out work on all complex motherboard repairs using a professional rework station.

We use genuine parts and offer warranty on all our repairs.
