Sony Playstation 3 Slim Repairs
Sony's smaller, lighter and supposedly better PS3 model, the Playstation 3 Slim (PS3 Slim) was released in 2009, in the 120 GB and 250 GB Hard Disc Drive (HDD) models. The PS3 Slim is a lot more affordable than the PS3, whilst still providing users with the same built-in Blu-ray and multimedia capabilities, HDMI output with 1080p support, built-in Wi-Fi, built-in web browser.
Not only does it look smaller and weigh less, it is more energy efficient- the console runs 34%-45% less power than the original PS3 whilst also running much quieter. Sony reduced the microprocessor, or RSX (graphics or GPU) chip, from 90nm to 45 and then 40nm. The cooling system was also redesigned which together with the reduced microprocessor allows for a quieter and cooler run.
This is a very important change as the previous PS3 models were plagued by the Yellow Light of Death (YLOD) issue, a bi-product of accumulative overheating and poor design and manufacturing. Only time will tell if the PS3 Slim really is a better video gaming console.
The PS3 Slim console's function is still consistent with the earlier PS3 models- it is not only a powerful gaming console providing exceptional high definition graphics, it has the ability to be a complete home media unit- PlayTV (stop pause rewind live TV), Blu-ray disc player, photo management, video editor and uploader, download and store music and videos, stream movies from a computer.
The Blu-ray lens used in the PS3 Slim is quite similar to the earlier PS3 models and hence gamers may experience their Blu-ray lens dying out after 12-24 months.
